Mrs. Chavie Silverberg, Director

Mrs. Chavie Silverberg,
Principal

With over 35 years of experience in special education, Mrs. Silverberg brings to BYBP a keenly honed expertise in helping children who have learning disabilities, developmental delays, or social-emotional challenges.

A licensed NYS speech-language pathologist and licensed NYS teacher for speech and hearing handicaps, she also holds a NYS bilingual extension license in Yiddish and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association. Organized, insightful, and compassionate, Mrs. Silverberg hires and guides staff and keeps the school running smoothly. Her warm and positive demeanor puts parents and children at ease, and her careful planning ensures best-fit placement for our students.

For Mrs. Silverberg, it’s about one goal: to see the light on a girl’s face when she feels safe and happy in the school’s supportive environment.

Mrs. Shoshana Hasenfeld

Mrs. Shoshana Hasenfeld,
Director of Counseling

Everything Mrs. Hasenfeld does at BYBP comes down to a single truth:  happy, well-adjusted children learn better — and fare better in life. In her role as Director of Counseling, Mrs. Hasenfeld ensures each student has the resources she needs for ideal emotional health and social integration.

She oversees the evaluations and treatment plans of each student, soliciting input and feedback from all members of the child’s team. She works to keep teachers, assistants, parents, and therapists informed and on the same page, so individualized plans are streamlined and reinforced in every area of the child’s life.

Mrs. Hasenfeld holds a masters degree in Family Therapy from NYU. She also completed a post-graduate fellowship at NYU as well. She is driven by the belief that with understanding and patience, every student can succeed.

Mrs. Deena Beller

Mrs. Deena Beller,
Curriculum Director

For much of her 30+ years of experience in schools, Mrs. Beller has been modifying mainstream curricula and innovating hands-on sensory approaches to assist children with learning differences. Her work is informed by her degrees in psychology and learning disabilities, as well as her NYS certifications in both Regular Education and Special Education.

As Curriculum Director, Mrs. Beller evaluates the educational goals of each child, determines the specific course for success, and then monitors for progress. She also ensures teachers receive the training and support required to carry out their integral mission.

For Mrs. Beller, nothing compares to the feeling of seeing happy students experience success — often for the first time. She loves watching a girl’s self-confidence blossom as she acquires a new skill. Her ultimate nachas: seeing BYBP graduates mature into well-adjusted, capable, successful individuals.

Rabbi Naftulie Weiss,
Executive Director

A much-beloved visionary, pioneer, and community activist, Rabbi Naftulie Weiss has been at the forefront of Jewish special education for decades.

Helping Yiddishe children is his life’s work, and he passes on his fire and passion to the entire BYBP team.  The welfare of students always comes first to Rabbi Weiss, and he’ll personally tackle any hurdle in the way — big or small — with his trademark dedication and attention to detail.

At BYBP, Rabbi Weiss draws on decades of executive leadership to ensure a robust and thriving institution — and create an environment where every girl can thrive.

Mrs. Aviva Rubinstein,

Mrs. Aviva Rubinstein,
Therapy Coordinator

The multiple therapy sessions taking place hourly at BYBP run like clockwork, thanks to Mrs. Rubinstein. A licensed occupational therapist who has been in education for 25 years, she designed — and maintains — a meticulously organized system that accounts for each student’s individual needs and schedule, so every girl gets exactly what she needs, with zero disruptions to class time. In addition, Mrs. Rubinstein also carries a full caseload, treating most of the students at BYBP, guided by her philosophy to see and treat the whole child.

Since earning her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Downstate, Mrs. Rubinstein has never stopped learning and continues to stay updated on advances in the occupational therapy field. She loves coming to work so much, she even comes in the summer, in her role as Director of BYBP’s successful summer day camp, Camp Ashreinu.
