“She doesn’t feel different — she’s a valued member of the class”

Before, my daughter just survived school as the “difficult” child. She was picking up knowledge, but she struggled developmentally and there was no visible progress. I was confident she could learn, but her school wasn’t getting her there. In just one year at BYBP, she went from not being able to say the ABCs to reading short words. Today, she’s a valuable part of the classroom. Her teachers see her middos and potential. She doesn’t feel different or like she’s in “the special ed class” because it’s all one school. BYBP is helping her progress more than I’d even imagined, and I’m thrilled.

Perel Rotenberg,

Parent

“Girls can tell their family, neighbors: ‘I go to Bais Yaakov.’”

When you walk into Bais Yaakov of Bay Parkway, it doesn’t feel like a special ed environment. The school runs like a regular Bais Yaakov — curricula, assemblies, GO — and the girls show a genuine self-confidence; they feel great about themselves. They’re happy to go to school, and they tell their friends: “I go to Bais Yaakov.” I refer families to BYBP often because the school is easy to work with. Most of all, they care about the child as a whole — their emotional and social well-being, not just academics.

Sara Horowitz,

Director of CARE for Special Children

“It’s time for school,”
you tell your daughter.

And every morning, you see her face fall.

Who wants to go to school when you can’t concentrate… and you feel invisible?

When you keep failing tests… and you don’t have the energy to try anymore?
When you don’t understand what’s going on around you… and you keep saying the wrong things to classmates?
When you get called out to learn in a different classroom… and you miss the fun programs and assemblies?

Many children need significant academic, social, and therapeutic support — but when they know they’re part of the “special” class, they feel different.

ABOUT

The best of both worlds:
Welcome to Bais Yaakov of Bay Parkway

Founded in 2007 and located in Brooklyn, New York, BYBP is a small, warm educational program serving girls ages 5-13 who need more individualized attention and support.

To date, BYBP has changed the lives of over 250 girls from across the tristate area, who have gone on to enjoy successful, productive, learning-filled years in middle school and high school.

Whether your daughter struggles with learning differences, social challenges, or attention deficits — here’s where she’ll shine.

Small classes & warm teachers

Classes are kept small, with 6-8 students, 2-3 teachers, and a 1:1 teacher-student ratio for core subjects. Every girl is seen and supported.

Tailored goals & academics

Success breeds success. Worksheets, tests, and learning goals are modified to each girl’s level, setting her up to grow and succeed.

On-site therapies & counseling

Our students get PT, OT, speech therapy, and counseling. All therapy goals are reinforced by every teacher, throughout the day.

Rich programs & extracurriculars

Our students enjoy assemblies, trips, performances, Yom Tov programming, music, art, and library — just as in any other Bais Yaakov.

Our girls love coming to school because they know they have support.

They get tasks they can complete.
They find friends who embrace them.
They taste the sweetness of success.
And they’re proud of themselves.

“She’s doesn’t want to miss a day”

In her former mainstream setting, my daughter always came home feeling bad about herself. School was a fight every morning — she would complain about stomachaches so she could stay home. Now, even when she actually is sick, she doesn’t want to miss a day! She loves school and feels like the smartest kid. They’ve transformed her — her love for Yiddishkeit and for herself, her self-respect. I’d say every child deserves what BYBP actually delivers, which is a chanoch l’naar, individualized education.

Mr. Dov Sufrin,

Parent

“It feels like a regular school”

We sent our daughter to BYBP hoping she’d build social skills and connect with other girls in her class. We didn’t realize how much she’d grow academically too! At BYBP, everything is customized to her level — but it still feels like regular school: they have assemblies, GO, performances, a uniform. She feels like all the other Bais Yaakov girls on our block. On top of that, we can see the teachers doing their utmost for our daughter. We are amazed at how much she’s grown, and we feel fortunate to have found this school.

Parent of 4th grader,

Brooklyn

Where every girl learns al pi darkah

Before accepting any student into our school, we conduct a thorough assessment to make sure BYBP is the right fit.

What is the child’s academic level? Emotional level? Would she benefit from meeting with our counselor? Does she need on-site OT, PT, or speech therapy? Which modifications will help her excel? And how can we make those happen?

  • LEARNING DISABILITIES
  • ATTENTION DEFICITS
  • SOCIAL CHALLENGES

Leah hates learning.

No one knows why she’s falling behind. Her teachers wonder if she even tries, but, as her parents, you see how hard she concentrates when trying to do her homework. You know Leah wants to do better — but she keeps hitting an invisible wall. So you hire a highly recommended (and pricey!) tutor but it’s lost on Leah who can’t sit anymore after a full, frustrating day at school.

Leah used to ask you lots of curious questions, but now she’s completely turned off. Because learning isn’t easy for Leah, and it’s definitely not fun. Extra tutoring, which reinforces the same failing classroom methods, doesn’t help — because Leah needs a modified way of learning.

That’s what Leah gets at BYBP:

Shorter, less overwhelming worksheets
Single-step tasks with ongoing direction
Stimulating, sensory-based learning activities
Visual aids for auditory lessons

So at BYBP — and beyond —

Leah loves learning.

Sara can’t sit.

The teachers don’t know what to do with her. When they try to teach, she talks. When they ask girls to fill out the worksheet, she doodles. “She’s disruptive,” her teachers tell you after she gets sent out. Yet again.

Sara spends half the day in the hallways and the other in a world of her own. Academically, she’s smart enough to always catch up with the information before tests. But now that she’s labeled “the troublemaker” and constantly called out for misbehavior, Sara feels badly about herself. Sara would do so well, if only she had the tools to focus and channel her strengths.

That’s what Sara gets at BYBP:

Structured behavioral programs
Loads of positive reinforcement
Regular movement breaks
Built-in sensory supports

So at BYBP — and beyond —

Sara can focus.

Faigy feels lonely.

On her report card, Faigy does okay. She has average grades — but not many friends. Because as smart as she is, she often says the wrong thing at the wrong time.

When a teacher says something she doesn’t like, Faigy lashes out. When girls talk during recess, she annoys them by interrupting.
When the Morah gives another girl attention, she gets jealous and moody.

Classmates look at her oddly and now she feels different, maybe even weird. As her parents, it breaks your heart. You know Faigy is capable. She just needs guidance on building healthy relationships.

That’s what Faigy gets at BYBP:

One-on-one social skill instruction
Group social skills modeling and role-play
Team projects and activities
Facilitated peer interactions

So at BYBP — and beyond —

Faigy has friends.

“Children are empowered to shine”

I have visited Bais Yaakov of Bay Parkway several times. Each time, it was clear that the principal, Mrs. Silverberg, is a warm and professional individual with a great deal of insight into children’s learning, language, and social-emotional needs. They have a strong administration with warm, professional leadership. The classrooms are warm and inviting places where children are empowered to shine. The staff works hard on remediating weaknesses and building on the strengths to address the whole child: academically, socially, and emotionally. The girls we have referred from our school — we have truly seen them blossom.

Mrs. Basya Weinstein,

General Studies Principal, Bais Yaakov of Boro Park

“Kids actually internalize the tools they need”

I’ve been a consultant for many years, and it’s hard to find a school that offers everything, but BYBP does. They provide for each child socially, emotionally, and academically. And it’s all on-site and built into their day-to-day schedule. Kids do best when all the staff working with them understand their needs, use the same language, and have the same goals for them. At BYBP, the teachers and staff all reinforce the skills throughout the day. Kids don’t learn in a bubble here — they actually internalize the tools they need.

We’re on a mission

To make sure every girl feels seen

Our small school is like a family. Every staff member knows every girl’s name — and notices their new haircut or new shoes. Our girls feel seen. They know we want the best for them.

To find solutions that work

A disruptive child is a struggling child — that’s why we don’t do punishments. Instead, we give tools for life: age-appropriate, non-disruptive strategies girls can use when frustrated, upset, or anxious.

To foster strong relationships

She’s not the outcast, the different one, or in the “special” class. Surrounded by friends who love and accept her, your daughter can build healthy, rich relationships with both her teachers and peers.

To build self-esteem

Learning is not for the books; it’s for life. We want our girls to graduate with skills — and a healthy sense of self. At BYBP, they get the support they need without having to feel “less-than” compared to the rest of the school.

To make learning possible — and fun

School doesn’t have to be synonymous with repeated failure. We give each girl an environment that supports her learning, with goals she can meet. She realizes that not only CAN she learn — she can love it too.

To reach each child on their level

Every student at BYBP has their own modified, individualized education plan — along with support from trained staff and on-site therapists who help them meet their most important  goals.

In this classroom,
your daughter thrives.

Walk into a BYBP classroom and you’ll see a small group of 6-8 students who are focused and engaged. Our class makeup is determined by academic and social level — not age — so students are surrounded by peers working toward similar goals.

Step into our classrooms.

Structured

First comes tefillah — then a Parsha lesson, reading instruction, a break for recess, a multi-sensory math activity…
With a clear, predictable structure, our girls know exactly what’s expected of them and when. They’re not stressed or anxious; they feel calm and ready to learn.

Encouraging

We reinforce positive behavior throughout the day, so our girls build good habits and healthy behaviors. If a student does get stressed or overwhelmed, our teachers are on hand to help. “Which strategy would you like to use now?” they’ll ask, offering a range of calming options that redirect the behavior.

Personalized

One girl is working on Alef-Beis while another is mastering nekudos. All worksheets, homework, and tests are modified for each student. Every girl has the support they need to grow at their own pace. And when they see it’s possible to actually reach academic milestones, they become confident and empowered.

Multisensory

With every learning goal, our teachers engage as many senses as possible. Girls will jump on a letter to indicate the sound it makes, review Chumash shorashim in a game of jumprope, build towers out of cubes to learn place value, and practice letter formation with clay and sand.

Holistic

Learning is not just about covering material. We teach our girls to work independently, organize themselves, follow directions, make a plan, manage multiple tasks, and interact with others. Our students aren’t just getting good grades — they’re on their way to becoming thriving, independent adults.

“Every parent is happy they sent their daughter”

BYBP is an unbelievable program. When parents hesitate about sending their girls there, I tell them every parent who ever told me “My daughter doesn’t belong there” is happy they ultimately sent their daughter. I don’t know what we’d do without the program. The teachers know what they’re doing and the girls get what they need.

Mrs. CHAYA SARA Tenenbaum,

Principal of Bais Rivkah preschool

“It’s the difference between success and failure”

We often encourage girls to go to BYBP when they’re not making it in a regular classroom. Every girl we sent was a life-changing situation — it was the difference between success and failure. Kids know when they don’t belong. They don’t want to be in an environment where they can’t keep up. At BYBP, the girls get whatever resources they need, on demand. They maximize their potential. And it affects their entire future! Every parent I know who’s sent a child to BYBP has been happy and thankful.

Principal,

Girls School, Brooklyn

BYBP is a place where your daughter…

Receives a solid Bais Yaakov education
Builds a strong self-esteem and sense of self
Feels proud of the school she attends
Knows she is capable, not different or “special”
Develops interpersonal skills and friendships
Learns to take initiative
Feels connected to Hashem and Yiddishkeit
Becomes a productive, independent child.

“They give kids a new lease on learning — and on life”

We’ve sent a few students to BYBP and it’s always been a positive experience. Mrs. Silverberg is a knowledgeable, on-target professional. She is passionate about students and wants to see them succeed. She really gets it and I respect her tremendously. BYBP is a well-rounded environment where they give each girl what she really needs. Girls are successful there. I went to a performance the students put on and found myself crying. The girls were so proud of themselves, so thrilled and excited, that it overwhelmed me. They give kids a new lease on learning — and on life.

Mrs. Michele Scholar,

Preschool Director at Lev Bais Yaakov

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

Choosing your daughter’s chinuch path is a big decision.
Here are some of the most common questions parents have.

Our financial resources are limited. What are the tuition costs?

Every Jewish child deserves an outstanding education. That’s why we have a dedicated on-staff liaison who works with you and the Board of Education to ensure your child receives the services she needs.

My daughter does not have social challenges. Will she learn negative behaviors from classmates?

No, because we intensively reinforce appropriate behaviors both inside the classroom and out. Additionally, each class makeup is based on social and emotional level — not age — so students are surrounded by peers who relate to their behaviors. In the 16 years BYBP has been in operation, we’ve only seen the influence go in one direction — socially challenged girls want to replicate the excellent behaviors of their friends and enjoy similar positive encouragement.

Can you help my daughter without making her feel different from her siblings/neighbors?

Yes, it’s one of the many things setting BYBP apart. This is not a mainstream school — but we provide a rich mainstream school experience with school assemblies, chaggigos, and the classic Bais Yaakov programs students love.

What kind of students do you accept into your program?

We only accept girls we are confident we can help.
Our school is an academic program. So if your daughter demonstrates the ability to
— progress academically
— develop strong social-emotional skills
…then we welcome the opportunity to meet with you and her and get to know her better. If we are not a good fit, we’ll do our best to refer you to a more suitable setting.

How will I know my child is making progress?

We will tell you!
In PTA meetings, regular reports, and phone calls, your child’s teachers and therapists will keep you apprised of her skills and milestones, as well as the goals she is working on. So you will always have a clear idea of where she is holding and where she still needs to go. And whenever you have a question or concern, or just want to discuss something, we are available for you.
We value your insight into your daughter’s progress outside of school and, if desired, will work with you to develop a supportive, growth-oriented environment in every aspect of her life.  We believe a strong partnership between parents, teachers, and staff is essential to ensure your child’s success, and we appreciate the trust you place in us.

Will our daughter have the opportunity to embrace our family’s unique mesorah?

Yes! Your family background is a vital part of your daughter’s chinuch. BYBP has students from a wide variety of communities. Students are encouraged to daven in their own nusach, and teachers are familiar with various minhagim, which are woven into lessons. Although students come from different backgrounds, BYBP has clear tznius and hashkafic guidelines that all students follow.

Have another question? We’re here for you.

If there is anything else you’d like to discuss, reach out to our front office at 718-534-8711 and our team will be happy to help you.

A healthy self-esteem is the key to a successful life.

But in the wrong environment, it’s so easily shattered.

If your daughter needs extra support, she doesn’t need:

To be pulled out of class by a para or therapist multiple times each day
To barely scrape through each day, or get through in survival mode
To feel “less-than” because she’s separated into the “special-ed class”

What she does need:

Warmth and attention from staff who know her name (and favorite color)
Targeted professional support from a cohesive, on-site multidisciplinary team
A rich appreciation for Yiddishkeit — and a connection to Hashem
The chance to build genuine self-esteem that will carry her through life.

Are we the right school to help your daughter thrive?

Let’s meet and see if we’re a good fit.

“I see a different child”

My daughter is a happy, enthusiastic girl who’s eager to learn. But after just six weeks at a different program, she was back home. She refused to go to school. They weren’t giving her what she needed al pi darkah and she struggled so much it crushed her confidence. I run a school myself — and when I walked into BYBP, within seconds I could feel the joy and respect they have for each child. I don’t think there’s another school like it. After just one day there, my daughter was talking about school with an excitement I’d never heard from her before. One Friday night, we saw her reading her own kapitel Tehillim, which we never thought she could do. She feels good about herself now that she can learn. I see a different child.
